The Court of Pacifica
The Court of
Pacifica, designed by Timothy Pflueger of San Francisco, was dominated by an eighty-foot statue of
Pacifica sculpted by Ralph Stackpole, a prominent San Francisco artist.
Pacifica, whose hands were raised in a gesture of peace, symbolized the spirit of all Pacific nations. A curtain composed of metal disks cut into star shapes hung behind her, tinkling like wind chimes with the aid of hidden electric fans. The white statue and aluminum disks were illuminated by a thyratrone (color wheel) at night. The fountain at the base of the
Pacifica statue displayed twenty statues representing the nations of the Pacific, sculpted by various artists.
